Ospf behavior on network types11/3/2023 To make communication more efficient, OSPF routers may choose DR/BDR on BMA Network. In this case, OSPF knows it's a Broadcast Multi-Access (BMA) network. In a similar way, OSPF routers look at the 'container' (encapsulation) to understand the network they're in.įor example, if the 'container' says it's Ethernet, it means the routers are connected to a LAN (like your home network). Each container tells you something about what's inside and how you should handle it. Imagine you have different types of containers to carry things. Routers determine the OSPF network type by checking the 'wrapper' around the data, called 'encapsulation,' on the interface they're connected to. OSPF behaves differently in different network types.
